Bachtalo Rom

bachtalo Rom, literally: "happy / blessed Rom". A healthy, strong man who brings good fortune.

After the Christmas Eve meal, Roma go round to each others homes and toast the New Year. If a bachtalo Rom is the first person to wish a family good health and fortune, the family in question will consider it a good sign for the whole coming year. (On the other hand, if the first person who comes to toast is a pre-menopausal woman, this is a sign of bad luck.)
